Introducing the Speakers of the Breath Biopsy Conference 2023
The Annual Breath Biopsy Conference is back this October. Bringing together leading researchers and organizations from all over the world to highlight the latest innovations and progress in breath research. Breath research is a rapidly advancing field, and we have an exciting cohort of speakers from leading research organizations and institutions planned. We are looking forward to welcoming them and our delegates from across the world.
Last year was another successful conference, with delegates joining from over 60 different countries. We aim to make this event as accessible as possible for all, no matter where they may be, therefore this year #BBCon23 will take place online over two days, from the 31st of October to the 1st of November. Registration, as always, is completely free. If you are currently working in breathomics, or have an interest in breath research and its translation into clinical practice, this event is for you!
On both days of the event, will be joined by our #BBCon23 plenary speakers, Dr. Michael Wilde, Lecturer in Environmental and Analytical Chemistry at the University of Plymouth on Day one, to discuss ‘Evidence of Breath Metabolite Networks’ and Sean Harshman from the Air Force Research Laboratory, UES Inc on Day two. There will also be various themed categories throughout the event, focusing on key topics such as Advances in Technologies, and Applications of Breath Analysis.
The Applications of Breath Analysis is always a popular session amongst delegates and speakers, due to the broad range of cutting-edge applications that breath can be incorporated to. Due to the popularity, we will be splitting this category into two sessions, meaning we can bring you even more inspiring talks and research to engage with. This year we are looking forward to welcoming leading researchers Dr. Bruce Johnson, from the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Oleg Shchelochkov from the Genome Research Institute, and Dr. Luis Mendez based at Clinica Alemana.
Luis will present research on ‘Approaching Complementary Studies for Timely and Accurate Diagnosis of Cirrhosis. From Primary Care to Specialty Consultation.’ If the applications of breath analysis for lung cancer screening is of interest to you, Pedro Vaz at Champalimaud Cancer Centre will be presenting ‘A Pragmatic Approach for Lung Cancer Screening Using Exhaled Breath in a Clinical Setting’. Not only are the applications of breath analysis developing and expanding, but the methods and technologies used to measure and analyze breath are also advancing, with standardization of these processes being a key factor. This year we will be welcoming Boehringer Ingelheim to present their latest research ‘Development of a Novel Method for Analysing Volatile Organic Compounds from Intubated Mice’. Breath research is a growing field, but we are seeing more and more early career researchers entering the field, and helping to push the promising field of breathomics forward. Each year we welcome early careers researchers to present their novel research to the wider community. Kathleen Zwijsen from the University of Antwerp will join us to discuss her latest research on the early detection of Mesothelioma in asbestos-exposed individuals. Alongside Kathleen, we are looking forward to hearing latest insights from Dr. Theo Issitt at University of York and Sam Bonsall from Sheffield Hallam University.

Feedback is very important to us to make sure that we bring you the best conference experience, with the latest insights in breath research from a mixture of different institutions and research organizations to provide a broad set of perspectives. Last year, our Ask the Expert session was surveyed to be one of our conference attendees’ favorite sessions.
This year we will be joined by a new cohort of panellists and a new topic, all focused on the standardization of breath analysis. This is a not-to-be-missed session, as it will bring you the world expert’s opinions of some of the most important topics in breath, stimulating lively interaction amongst both the panel and viewers.
