Highlights from a Busy Summer
July and August are often a quieter time for us, with the conference season taking a short pause after a very busy few months of conferences. Over the summer we welcomed a group of seven interns for twelve weeks. While the interns helped develop their professional skills and build their careers, we were working behind the scenes to prepare for the next few months ahead. From gearing up for major events to pushing forward with innovative research, we’ve kept busy throughout the summer. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
Summer Interns
Every summer we welcome interns from all over the country to come and develop their careers. Each intern works in a department to learn hands on experience and get the soft skills required to make drive success in their future roles. This year we had interns join the Sales and Marketing, Laboratory Operations, Clinical Study Delivery, Analytical Science, Clinical Biomarker Services, and Engineering teams. We promote hands on learning for our interns, and each of them were able to take part in projects, including research and development for papers as well as getting used to using our digital platforms such as Teams or Jira to experience a real working environment. If you’re interested in hearing from them first hand, you can watch some short videos of their experiences here.
Gearing up for the Breath Biopsy Conference in November
Our biggest event of the year is fast approaching! The Breath Biopsy Conference 2024 will take place online on November 5th and 6th where leaders in the field will share their insights into the future of breath-based diagnostics.
Edit* this conference has now taken place. Delve into the various talk recordings, poster presentations and more from #BBCon2024 here.
RecFest 2024
This month, Grace Rowley-Smith and Ashleigh Griffin had the opportunity to attend RecFest 2024, an event tailor-made for recruitment and talent teams to gather and connect. RecFest is the World’s Largest Talent Acquisition Event, where they got the chance to experience some cutting-edge tech demos that will help improve the candidate and employee experience.
Billy Boyle on In Vivo Podcast
Our CEO, Billy Boyle, was recently featured on the Citeline In Vivo Podcast, where he discussed the incredible potential of breath analysis for the early detection of disease. It’s a must-listen for anyone interested in how this technology could revolutionize healthcare.
Cambridge Wide Open Day
Last year saw the first ever Cambridge Wide Open Day and our team once again took part this year. This event offers a unique insight into the city’s world-renowned science and technology, welcoming visitors from across the Cambridge community to explore the innovations in Cambridge. Ashleigh Griffin and Lucy Godbeer demonstrated what we do at one of the open spaces across the city.
Summer Party
Each year we host a summer party that includes a mix of fun and games on the lawn outside the office. This year’s summer party was a great success. After the recent Paris Olympics, we held our very own ‘Owlympics’ including a very competitive egg and spoon race, puzzling team quiz, a crazy mini golf course, and a magical chance to ride on a rodeo unicorn! We enjoyed every moment whilst soaking up the sunny weather with a delicious BBQ, an ice cream or two, and a mobile bar. A big thank you goes out to the social committee for organizing the day and the Owlstone Team for joining in on the fun.
Management Training Scheme
98% of our managers have now undergone the Institute of Leadership accredited scheme. In July, a fresh batch of our managers completed it, not only enhancing their leadership capabilities but also ensured that they possessed the skills needed to be an effective leader.
Looking Ahead
With autumn fast approaching, we’re gearing up for an exciting few months. From the Breath Biopsy Conference to more cutting-edge research, we can’t wait to share more with you soon. Stay tuned, and don’t forget to sign up to our LinkedIn Newsletter to receive Owlstone news straight to your inbox!
